There are different power sources in surfing - power from the ocean and power from the surfer’s body. Marry these two forces together correctly, and you create a surfing performance that is powerful and successful. When we think about the power produced from a surfer’s body, an essential concept is Summation of Forces. This is where there is a continual flow of power through the body, in a sequential fashion, to create maximum power during the execution of the various manoeuvres of surfing.

This first episode of Surfing Solutions provides an overview of the different types of problems surfers face, and proven solutions to these problems. First presented at Surfing Australia’s Greenroom conference in February 2010, this presentation breaks surfing performance into its five core components to illustrate that errors can be simplistic in nature or multi-faceted, depending on the complexity of the skill. It also makes the case that any motivated surfer, be they grommets or experienced adults - just like golfers, can improve their performances with the right advice.
