| Recently
crowned Australian under 18 champions and 2003 ISA World Grommet
champions, Ben Dunn and Jessi Miley-Dyer, have been using
Surfcoach.com’s video analysis service as an integral part of
their surfing development. The service, where surfers can send a
videotape of their surfing for evaluation and feedback, is
available to any motivated surfer worldwide.
By
sending a videotape to Martin at Surfcoach.com, a surfer can
receive feedback on how to improve their surfing by
fixing
faulty moves or by creating
more power [
surfing technique],
or obtain advice on how to create better manoeuvre combinations by
making more correct decisions when surfing
[ wave usage ].
Martin does this by evaluating the sent videotape, selecting
skills that need improvement, and then producing a video report
that is sent back to the surfer for them to view before they surf
each day. This video report then acts like their coach at their
local beach, giving them the knowledge and focus to fast-track
their surfing development Each
video report usually contains 3 – 6 skill presentations, where
the training surfer is told why the skill needs to be improved,
and how improvement can be created. This is achieved through
Martin recording a voiceover, drawing meaningful diagrams on
screen, and comparing the surfer to other surfers using
split-screen technology. The
split-screen view is synchronised so each surfer performs the
target manoeuvres at the same speed, making for a clear comparison
of what needs to be changed. “This
service is suitable for any keen surfer, amateur or competitive
alike.” said Ben Dunn. “If you want to improve your current
surfing level, having your performance evaluated can really help.
It’s like going to an elite surf camp without the airfare”. |
